When I was reading the first part of this book I was able to relate to a lot of what the author, Rebekah Nathan, wrote. This book is about the author who is an anthropologist who believes in Participant-observation research. This type of research is where the anthropologist becomes fully involved in what they are studying. Rebekah goes back to college as a freshman to study life in college. She attends all the mandatory freshman events along with the non-mandatory ones. She also lives in the dorms and in these chapters discusses in full detail what the dorms look like including room and door decoration descriptions, lounge layouts, and what RAs do. She goes into full detail and a lot of the things she says I relate back to Bloomsburg and can imagine what this University looked like.
I really liked when Rebekah went into full detail about what the dorms looked like. When I lived in the dorms last year I was always observing people's decorations on their doors and rooms and I loved to decorate my door with what ever season or holiday that was coming up. When I first began reading this book I thought it was weird that an older woman was a freshman living in the dorms and I thought of what my reaction would be if Rebekah came to Bloomsburg. If Rebekah came to Bloomsburg I would probably be very creeped out that a older woman was a student living in the dorms. I would be curious as to why she was there and probably ask her in the hallway why she decided to come to college so late in life.
